"non-vanilla" sex life?
.
BDSM Toys - Keeping Them Clean
Some will NEVER use toys and tools on more than one submissive EVER. They see them as exclusively "her toys."
Other people are much more lackadaisical, which may be seen by some as far too dangerous.
For sure, anything with even a small amount of blood on it needs to be considered "contaminated" and should not be used on another submissive until its thorough cleansed.
Even then, there may be some risk of contamination. |

The need for BDSM "Toy Sanitation" is generally understood. But knowledgeable and experienced BDSM folk can disagree on how much care need be taken.

position in the local community," admits his article "is based
on perceived reality."

BDSM Toy Sanitation

Regarding sanitation of individual toys, it is best to have a good understanding of what is sanitary (bio-hazard safe) and what is not.
First, consider the life span of the hiv virus is about 7.2 hours outside the body. Other viruses and bacteria have life spans of just a few minutes to up to 3 hours outside the body.
For toys that are used and have possibly contacted a virus, merely wiping them to remove "dirt" and then allowing to air dry for 8 hours renders them safe. If a toy is intended to be used on more than one person within 8 hours, some type of disinfecting agent (chemical) must be used.
Almost any high alcohol (or glycol) content cleaner will suffice. A cleaner known as Simple Green has been shown to be very effective in tests of killing viruses and bacteria. From the safety standpoint, I know of no known cases of cross-contamination (infection) of one bottom to another by using the same toys.
Also, if a given toy used has not contacted broken skin or a mucous membrane, then the chances it has become contaminated is reduced. So it is not only a matter of what toys are played with, it is a matter of how they are used in play.
For example, a pussy
whip used on one female bottom should not be used on another female bottom without proper sanitation. But a flogger used on the back of one bottom could be used on the back of another bottom without much attention to sanitation and still be very safe.
If you disagree with anything I have said here, I would appreciate the feedback. In fact, I would appreciate feedback in any case.
Be known, this information is provided as an introduction to BDSM toy sanitation and safety, in the practical opinion of the writer. It is recommended that each person do their own research and consideration on the subject.
Try to keep in mind that BDSM should follow RACK (Risk Aware Consensual Kink) guidelines. There is a risk of bio-hazards within most BDSM play.
