Warning - The same technology that makes it possible to find and make fast friends also helps the person with less than the highest intentions. In fact, the online world includes individuals who are stalkers and criminals. Assault, date rapes and worse, where the original contact was made online, are not unheard of. Obviously you need to proceed with a degree of informed caution.

The headlines in the media regarding "John", the 'Slavemaster' from Kansas City who is alleged to have lured and killed 4 or possibly more women and assaulted and raped others under the false guise of BDSM is a harsh and brutal reminder of the Dangers that lurk online and in Real Life. Some of these women might be alive today had they but used a bit of common sense and/or followed some of the basic safety rules. These Rules have been developed over the years to allow meeting someone new in a safe manner. You may do as you wish, of course, but you do so at your own risk. Ignore these warnings and Rules at Your Peril and RISK of Your LIFE.

Most of these Rules are common sense. But some still choose to ignore them. I realize it is easy to fall in love or at the very least, lust with someone with very little if Any, personal knowledge of their Character, especially in the digital age, where internet chatting is commonplace. Remember, especially with "online" relationships, that the internet medium in particular is fraught with anonymity and thus, Peril. Remember that Profiles can be misleading and "pic" or graphic files can be edited to look like anyone or anything. What you Think you see, may NOT be anything like what you Get.

Please indulge Me and allow Me to share some of these Rules with you.

First: Never give out personal information right away. This includes your full name, street address, phone number, complete date of birth, social security number, passwords, etc. When you make a web page, be sure to rename your picture files so as not to reveal data which can be used to locate you. If you wish to telephone someone, the Best Idea is to get Their number and call Them. Preferably from a public phone booth using a phone card. If you must use your home, work, or cell phone, then enable blocking so that the number will not been seen on caller ID. Yes, it will cost you more money, but it IS safer.

Second: Always meet in a public place for first meeting. Drive to the meeting in your own vehicle if at all possible. It is NOT advised to leave the public meeting point on first meeting. And it is most Unwise to Play (scene) at first meeting as well.

Third: ALWAYS use a safecall. This is a call made to or by a close friend that ensures your safety. Your safecall friend should have ALL available information about the person you are meeting. This includes first and last name, street address, all phone numbers, physical description, etc. Some authorities advocate getting a photocopy of a picture ID. While this is not a bad idea, it can be very difficult to obtain, since many folks are equally as cautious about sending out such personal information about themselves. If you do not call at the agreed on time, or do not use a code phrase that indicates that all is well, then law enforcement can be summoned immediately to your aid. Not coincidently, one of the women who escaped 'John's clutches and lived, did so BECAUSE she used her safe call.
